The annual science exhibition was announced in the school. Children were asked to make interesting scientific models and experiments. Ajay was very excited about this event. He was a child who loved science as a subject and enjoyed learning about new inventions, technologies, and discoveries in the field.
He thought that this was the best opportunity for him to prove his scientific knowledge. He thought of participating in the exhibition and making a water filter model. This water filter would work by taking dirty water and filtering it to make it pure and drinkable. He thought it was a great idea and started working on his model. As the day of the exhibition came near, there was excitement in the students to see what their classmates had prepared for the exhibition. But no one was sharing what they had made, thinking that others might copy their idea.
It was the day before the exhibition, Ajay was done with his model and had checked whether it was working properly. In school when he and his friends were discussing the exhibition, he saw Albert, one of his classmates very upset. Ajay went and asked him what was the problem. Albert said that he was making a motorized rope bucket that could help remove water from wells. Ajay said that it was a great idea, then Albert replied, “But the model that I made is not working for some reason, and I have no time to fix it”. Saying this, Albert got even more upset.
Ajay said “Don’t worry Albert, I will help you with the model”. He said that he would come to his home to fix his model, and Albert became happy hearing this. After school, when Ajay came to check Albert’s model, he found out what the problem was. After some work, the problem was corrected and the model started working properly. Albert was very happy and thanked Ajay for helping him.
After looking at the model working, Ajay said, “Albert, you have made a motorized bucket to remove water from wells, and I have made a water filter. Why don’t we both combine our models and participate in the exhibition together?” Albert thought that it was a great idea and agreed instantly. The next day during the exhibition, since their combined model had a proper solution for a problem, it was praised by all, and they even won the first prize in the exhibition. This was possible because they cooperated and worked together at the right moment and combined their efforts to make something more complete.
What we learned
When we cooperate and work with others we come up with ideas that are superior that individual ones. Cooperating with others also develops our social skills and confidence.
