Martin Luther King Jr., also known as MLK, was an American minister and activist who helped in the civil rights movement in the 1950s. He wanted equality amongst people no matter which background they came from.
- Did you know that MLK was a huge believer in peaceful protests and civil disobedience, which is when you respectfully break the law because you think it is unfair or wrong. He was influenced by many activists such as Mahatma Gandhi!
- MLK delivered his “I Have a Dream” Speech in front of 250000 people in Washington in 1963. His dream was for every boy and girl to go to the same school and treat each other with kindness and equality —this was hard to achieve because of racial inequality back then.
- MLK was the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 35 1964.
